BAggage Scanning

The AXIS-3D® system

The Gatwick Bomb Threat
A response from 3DX-Ray

Last week has seen serious incidents at airports in New York, Karachi and St Petersburg, to name but a few.
A replica bomb was smuggled past security staff in hand luggage during a safety inspection at Gatwick, Britain's second busiest airport. Norman Shanks, a former head of security at BAA said “we really need to be looking at a new generation of X-rays to help check for explosive devices”.

3DX-RAY Chief Executive Nick Fox explains the benefits of using the new generation of X-Ray machines.

"Being able to view the contents of baggage in the same stereoscopic way our eyes see in the real world, gives the operator a powerful tool to help him assess a threat more easily, clearly and with less chance of missing a gun, bomb, knife or other threat. The images from 3D systems, such as AXIS-3D® offer cutting-edge clarity, which is essential if  screeners are to spot and identify smaller parts, such as the timer, wire and detonators. I firmly believe that they are the way of the future."

“A long term trial by the TSA at a major international US airport, showed conclusively that simply using the more modern breed of baggage scanners that produce x-rays in 3D can "significantly" reduce the threat of a bomb or device getting past baggage-scanning security at an airport.  The same technology was brought in by the Beijing authorities for the Olympics."
