3DX-RAY at METC
Stand No 1264
2 & 3D x-ray vision/inspection virtually eliminates faulty goods

The technology behind 3DX-RAY’s new x-ray vision and inspection systems is being displayed at MTEC, with the help of a model railway train running through an x-ray tunnel.  Real-time images will be captured and displayed showing the tiny intermeshing parts as they move by.

Measuring or checking the position and alignment of parts inside other components on a production line, for metrology or QC, has been notoriously difficult.  The new breed of 2D and 3D x-ray systems from 3DX-Ray, however, has the problem solved.

3DX-RAY’s MDXi and AXIX3D systems use innovative linescan technology to slash the cost of inspection systems by around 50% compared with more conventional area scan equipment.  They give users the ability to cut their own production costs by greater accuracy of internal inspection and QC trending.  This reduces product rejects by spotting misalignment trends far earlier and virtually eliminating product recalls or rejects.

3DX-RAY can measure relative positions, alignments and boundaries very accurately (100 microns in 3D) – which allows it to separate different components, even when you have close-fitting or intermeshing components inside a dense container.

The software takes the data and builds it into a real-time 3D (or 2D) database simulation, which can then be analysed with dedicated image processing, automatic image identification and QC routines.  This can be sent on to a standard factory QC / SPC /SCADA system if required.

The software makes autonomous pass / fail decisions and rejects faulty parts automatically.  It warns if processes are slowly drifting towards tolerance limits and compares products to an “ideal” component using “golden board” techniques.
