Exploding batteries - reducing the risk 

 A short-circuit in a lithium-ion battery can cause it to ignite or even explode.

During the past decade, there have been numerous recalls of lithium-ion batteries in cellular phones and laptops owing to overheating problems. Boston Power, one of the world’s largest producers of batteries, recognised the capability of x-ray imaging to detect latent problems which could lead to a short circuit and explosion in their lithium ion batteries. 3DX-RAY was asked to designed and install an x-ray system to inspect 100% production of the Sonata battery at full line speeds.

The system accurately measures linear distances and alignments as well as checking for short circuits and misaligned components that may be present in the electrical assembly.
