Waste Screening Using the AXIS-3D® Industrial Scanner The Solution The requirement for the solution was relatively simply – without unnecessarily opening every sack of waste, produce an image of the contents so that a screener can readily identify the presence and location of any non-compliant items, and if any found, also provide a visual representation of the surrounding items to ensure its safe and rapid retrieval (avoid the presence of sharps etc) through a hand search. The AXIS-3D® offers the perfect solution providing both a real time 3D X-ray image of the contents of the sack, and with our enhanced systems software, it also highlight areas containing organic fluids – such as filled syringes and glass vials. This image is of a prepared waste sack containing examples of non-compliant items. It clearly shows how the presence of batteries, syringe and even needles can be readily identified. The use of a modified version of our dual energy X-ray analysis technique for materials discrimination also enables us to highlight the presence of organic fluids within, in this case, the glass vial. Future enhancements for this system include the development of “operator assist” software that will automatically highlight areas of concern that may contain non-compliant items. Next>> |
